Tomorrow is a public holiday (yes! I have had a three day week! It has been fantastic!) and I am having brunch with a friend. Then I am planning on going into town and buying a whole bunch of stuff to stick in a basket for SIL's babyshower.
IDEAS???
So far I have: babywipes, baby powder, little socks (sooo cute!).
So yeah. That's a pretty disappointing hamper. So I would love some ideas. Things that SIL will USE for the baby.
And, I am planning on buying a couple of long sleeved shirts with a higher neck. It's freezing cold in our new town, and I realised I don't have any long sleeved skivvy type tops, I usually just wear a Tshirt and a cardigan.
Aaaaanyway. So I am hoping tomorrow won't be too spendy. SIL and her fiance are staying tomorrow night, and they want to go to the movies before the baby arrives as they are thinking they probably won't be able to go for a while after she's born.
what to put in a hamper for a babyshower???

A nice thick baby towel would probably get well used too. A baby hairbrush/comb set. Nail clippers. An ear thermometer (if you can find one for a reasonable price). A lot of these things are also fine if she gets duplicates.
Sleepers or onesies depending on the weather when the baby is born. It's always nice to get a receiving blanket, but she will probably get tons of those. The heavier baby blankets got more use in our house (and still get used today as lap-gans for DD).
It's still early here and I'm not fully awake, so that's all I can come up with for the moment. If you're good with baby sitting, offer some of that too

And they take up plenty of space in the hamper....
Bottles! There are alot of special shapes, etc. now. The expensive ones are thay way for a reason. A two pack can cost $10. You don't have to get those, and it really is a matter of preference to the mom/baby. But some moderate price ones are good. Avoid the least costly, they will leak or air will get in and the baby will get uncomfortable in the tummy. Also bottle nipples. They wear out and replacements are needed. Even if she breast feeds she will need bottles later on.
I say no on anymore clothes and blankets also.
And I did 99% of my shopping for the babies at the second hand store (it's been 10 years tho). For rattles, toys, books, bath toys, shoes, clothes, younameit. We invested in a couple good strollers, high chair, crib, etc. but I made or thrifted all the rest.

a cloth wet diaper bag..link to one: http://www.babybootywear.com/item_19/Wahmies-Wet-Bags-Regular.htm
It is useful even for a disposable diaper family (I just gave one to my mom to use for swimsuits when she travels, no more diapers in her family)
I wouldn't give bottles unless you know they will use them (I never do). Though diapers are usually a winner, few folk refuse to use disposables ever. (you would prolly know by now)
