Mortgage *officially* under $300k!

July 16th, 2009 at 10:04 am

Our weekly mortgage payment came out today, and that leaves the balance owing at $299 781.76, with $2168.26 in available funds.

It wasn't actually a goal or anything, but it feels good nonetheless!

Sometime reaching an unplanned goal is better than reaching a planned one!

Congrats - are Aussie mortgages structured differently somehow? In the US they are structured in an evil way - even for the fixed rate ones, you pay the interest up first, rather than any principal, so it takes you years and years of paying to pay principal.

baselle: we pay a portion of interest and a portion of the principal. you can structure them differently depending on what the mortgage is for (and how educated you are!). DF's dad only pays interest on his mortgage because he's renovating and planning on selling soon. we plan to be here for a while, so the more we have in there and paid off, the better Smile
thanks guys for all your good wishes
