GREEN with ENVY!

December 11th, 2008 at 07:22 am

I was just checking Facebook and a girl I went to school with posted a picture of her new car. (a year ago this girl posted a picture of her then new car, a convertible peugot 206cc)

Anyway, so her new-new car is a Nissan 350z.

For anyone that doesn't know... this is MY car!!! my dream car!!!

I was frowning slightly looking at the picture, but internally a voice was just yelling 'ARGH ARGH AAAAAARGHHHHH!!!!'

Normally I don't care what other people have versus what I have. But this just hits so close to home it's unfair!

*sigh*

Atleast, I guess... I should be happy that she is 21 and has a well paying job. Or I should be sad that she is now over $65 000 in debt.

Is it really that terrible if I'd be *happier* about the latter?

:-(

WOW! Thats nice and that's coming from someone who don't really care much about cars. My brother recently got a new secondhand car, I think it is probably an old version to that one (Nissan 300zx?? or something like that). At least he paid for it in cash and definitely did not cost that much but it still looks pretty cool though.

    Wow.... cool car !!

In my opinion, unless she is earning about 120,000 a year, she either:

    A. Paid for it with money from outside job. e.g. gift from parents/BF, she won/inherited some money.

    or

    B. She has a HUGE monthly car payment which will do severe damage to her future wealth.

    or

    C. a mixture of A and B.

Yes ! Amazing car ! Would I swop with her ( and inherit her presumable debt) ? No !

I, like you presumably, would rather save 10,000 up and then splash out on a cool second-hand car.

I wish her all the best with it tho !!

ooohhhh....that is the grandbaby of my first car! (saw it in the ad when they first came out)...they ARE nice...
and, feeling BAD envy once in a while doesn't make you a bad person...

That was my dream car too!! I was finally able to buy it last year...but i bought my jeep wrangler instead?? I was so torn but the 350z was soooo impracticable. I'm sorry you are envious- that is a nice nice car.- but i LOVEEEE my jeep.

I'm not a car person either, but that is a nice car. Keep saving!!

...LOL!...this just occurred to me... what if those aren't really her cars? what if she just posted pictures of them stating they're hers??

Um the car is nice but I just wouldn't pay $65,000 for a a nissan they would have to have me in a Jag, beamer or something of that nature. And anyone can post a picture as miclason has stated above. I would invest my money elsewhere I think its a fake. Sorry

    it's hers. Smile
she has a personalised plate, which i blacked out in the photo. it's also in her driveway. Smile

That's nice for her but again i wouldn't invest $65,000 into a Nissan lol. Her parents are probally paying for it I mean seriously thinking realistically at the best rate possible 2 percent or so at 72 months is at least about a grand a month. I think her parents blessed her with a nice gift or are paying the payments for her. If girlfriend has it that good and makes enough money to invest $1,000 or more dollars a month into a vehicle she shouldn't be living at home with her parents. Priorites!! I wouldn't envy her why? everyone know's that cars depreciate there value tremendously once you leave of the lot she has $65,000 worth of debt in a car she'll more than likely be flipped upside down in when she decides to purchase her next car.lol

Yeah, that's not bad, though I'm more of a
Text is Audi R8 and Link is http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/new_cars/Audi_R8.html
Audi R8 kind of guy. Ooh yeah, baby!

I mean, since we're all pining for stuff somebody else has that we can't, I figure why stop at a "budget GT"? Hehe.

No, I can't say I've never been envious. But. BUT. I still don't care. In the end, they don't live my life and I don't live theirs. And if a certain car is what I truly want out of life, I WILL GET IT! Maybe not right away, b4ut certainly, someday.

There's nothing stopping us from getting what we want out of life.... Eventually.

However, since it is NOT what I want out of life, I guess I'll be content settling for a use Corolla.

You know what I do want though? I just want to be happy. Or at least, no miserable anymore. I don't think a car will do that for me. I think only being able to meet my needs without having to struggle will do that for me....

Whenever I see stuff like that happening to me I think about a girl I was talking to my senior year of high school. I was talking about how she could afford such awsome vacations and a nice car and was wondering if her parents bought all this. She replied, "They buy some of it but I usually put most of it on my credit card. I owe, like, ten thousand right now but who cares because all you have to do is pay the minimum balance." yeah, she hadn't even graduated when she told me that. You are way better off than the facebook girl. Don't even sweat it, you'll get that car when you can afford it. Then it will be yours and not on loan from some company.

  13. homebody Says:
    1229278396

Geez I didn't realize it was that expensive. It is not as nice a car as I thought!

    update:
well everyone, i did some investigating and found out she has a job which pays $40 an hour. which i worked out if it's a 38 hour week which pays 52 weeks a year, it comes in at under $80 000 a year.
HOWEVER. I found out from another source that the job which she has is for a company that ONLY operates under contracts, which last for 2 years, after which you may be re hired or you may not.
other knowledge i have aquired: her family doesn't have much money, so it would not have come from them. i am guessing she got a loan for it (and onesexylady: the lowest car finance rate you could get in australia would be around 8% at the moment - and that's a decrease) with the intent to pay it off over the two years she has her high paying job. which of course, could definately be done. ($155 000 less $65 000 means she has a measly $90k to live off for two years - while living with her parents...)

so, while i still envy her a littler, it's not as much now seeing as I personally wouldn't want that kind of debt hanging over my head with the only insurance of paying it off being an employment contract - i mean, it's not as if everything is really that stable right!

  15. homebody Says:
    1229310551

    plus her taxes!

  16. whitestripe Says:
    1229390599

yes i forgot about taxes... assuming $40 an hour is her gross amount (it would be) that would mean $1520 a week income, less $364 tax. so her weekly wage would be $1156 take home.
which is *only* $60 112. which is $120 224 for the length of her contract... which means she just spent OVER HALF her income on a car... lets not forget finance which would be approx 8% so...

i am REALLY HAPPY i am not in her shoes!

i am now focusing my energy on lusting after the s15 spec r 200sx . it's in our pricerange and it's something BF would agree on going halvsies on. Big Grin

  17. annie Says:
    1229411019

wow...it's a nice car. i would probably prefer something like that nissan over a jag or a beamer because it's not as... flashy and 'up yourself'...
    nissans are nice!

but yeah i pity her. what if her contract falls through! what's she gonna do then huh?!

  18. whitestripe Says:
    1229411111

yeah i never thought about that either annie! it's not exactly the most stable time to be putting yourself in that much debt over something frivolous.

gosh. i keep imagining what I WOULD DO, if I had her income.

(it would involve putting most of the money in THE BANK like a normal person...)

  19. M E 2 Says:
    1229413467

no it's not terrible that you're happy about the girl being in debt rather than having a high paying job. even though it has ended up she's both!

if i were in your shoes it would probably make me feel better too. life's unfair sometimes though. you just have to accept what you've got and move on. who knows, one day you'll have the chance to have that car and you'll most likely pay cash for it because you're (hopefully) a lot smarter than her.

  20. gamecock43 Says:
    1229434006

I know this is late in the game...but when I was seriously looking into buying the 350Z the price I was considering paying was $32,0000- not $65k. I wonder if prices are different here than in Australia? But I was looking at the Basic car...no upgrades.

  21. whitestripe Says:
    1229461843

gamecock: she bought it new and the price for a new one is between $64990 and $74990.
i would most definately buy a used one which the cheapest i can find is $39 990 Smile
