I was just checking Facebook and a girl I went to school with posted a picture of her new car. (a year ago this girl posted a picture of her then new car, a convertible peugot 206cc)
Anyway, so her new-new car is a Nissan 350z.
For anyone that doesn't know... this is MY car!!! my dream car!!!
I was frowning slightly looking at the picture, but internally a voice was just yelling 'ARGH ARGH AAAAAARGHHHHH!!!!'
Normally I don't care what other people have versus what I have. But this just hits so close to home it's unfair!
*sigh*
Atleast, I guess... I should be happy that she is 21 and has a well paying job. Or I should be sad that she is now over $65 000 in debt.
Is it really that terrible if I'd be *happier* about the latter?
:-(
GREEN with ENVY!

In my opinion, unless she is earning about 120,000 a year, she either:
A. Paid for it with money from outside job. e.g. gift from parents/BF, she won/inherited some money.
or
B. She has a HUGE monthly car payment which will do severe damage to her future wealth.
or
C. a mixture of A and B.
Yes ! Amazing car ! Would I swop with her ( and inherit her presumable debt) ? No !
I, like you presumably, would rather save 10,000 up and then splash out on a cool second-hand car.
I wish her all the best with it tho !!

I mean, since we're all pining for stuff somebody else has that we can't, I figure why stop at a "budget GT"? Hehe.
No, I can't say I've never been envious. But. BUT. I still don't care. In the end, they don't live my life and I don't live theirs. And if a certain car is what I truly want out of life, I WILL GET IT! Maybe not right away, b4ut certainly, someday.
There's nothing stopping us from getting what we want out of life.... Eventually.
However, since it is NOT what I want out of life, I guess I'll be content settling for a use Corolla.
You know what I do want though? I just want to be happy. Or at least, no miserable anymore. I don't think a car will do that for me. I think only being able to meet my needs without having to struggle will do that for me....

well everyone, i did some investigating and found out she has a job which pays $40 an hour. which i worked out if it's a 38 hour week which pays 52 weeks a year, it comes in at under $80 000 a year.
HOWEVER. I found out from another source that the job which she has is for a company that ONLY operates under contracts, which last for 2 years, after which you may be re hired or you may not.
other knowledge i have aquired: her family doesn't have much money, so it would not have come from them. i am guessing she got a loan for it (and onesexylady: the lowest car finance rate you could get in australia would be around 8% at the moment - and that's a decrease) with the intent to pay it off over the two years she has her high paying job. which of course, could definately be done. ($155 000 less $65 000 means she has a measly $90k to live off for two years - while living with her parents...)
so, while i still envy her a littler, it's not as much now seeing as I personally wouldn't want that kind of debt hanging over my head with the only insurance of paying it off being an employment contract - i mean, it's not as if everything is really that stable right!

which is *only* $60 112. which is $120 224 for the length of her contract... which means she just spent OVER HALF her income on a car... lets not forget finance which would be approx 8% so...
i am REALLY HAPPY i am not in her shoes!
i am now focusing my energy on lusting after the s15 spec r 200sx . it's in our pricerange and it's something BF would agree on going halvsies on.

nissans are nice!
but yeah i pity her. what if her contract falls through! what's she gonna do then huh?!

gosh. i keep imagining what I WOULD DO, if I had her income.
(it would involve putting most of the money in THE BANK like a normal person...)

if i were in your shoes it would probably make me feel better too. life's unfair sometimes though. you just have to accept what you've got and move on. who knows, one day you'll have the chance to have that car and you'll most likely pay cash for it because you're (hopefully) a lot smarter than her.
