nooooooooo! i'm such an idiot!

July 9th, 2009 at 07:04 am

Last night we went to dinner at DF's uncles house. His other uncle and auntie and their children were up from Tasmania, we had not seen them in about 3 years. It was a one hour drive to get there, we left to go home at around 10pm.
The entire way home is a highway, which is usually empty at that time of night.
Anyway, long story short I got a speeding fine!!! ARGH! $200 and I think 3 points off my license.
I am on my Provisional license ( once you get get your Learners through a written test, you then take the driving test after a year for your 'real' license, then you are on your P's for 3 years, then you get your Open license after that). I am not really sure of all the laws now, they recently changed. I could have 4 points in total, or I could have 6 points.

I was about your age when I got my first ticket. It isn't a good feeling, that's for sure. Do you have any kind of a Driver's Ed program where you can make it so the ticket doesn't stay on your record (for insurance)?

I got pulled over on the day I got my license! They gave me a warning. I was devestated! I am 35 and have had only 3 tickets.

That happens to everybody. I got pulled over once for passing a cop on the highway at 5 am (I was on my way to work). I didn't get a ticket but the cop definitely gave me a lecture for passing him.

i dont think a speeding fine will affect my insurance - usually only police reported crashes or past claims do. i'm under 25 so my insurance is on the high end anyway, and i'm a rating 5 (the best rating is 1) i was 15 km over the limit - i looked on the transport website and worked out it will only be 2 points - phew! (in a months time i will have 11 points, i am a month away from my full license).

Whitestripe I'm an insurance agent and i do know that here in the US any tickets or accidents (including claims) will raise your insurance. It also causes drivers to loose there "good driving" discounts for a short period of time. 15 miles over the limit is not considered wreckless driving though. Also when your with your current carrier for a long period of time they usually look the other way or throw in some other type of discount to off set the increase.

in australia our premiums are calculated on the claims we have had in the past.
